MARBRÉ NO. 46

< PREVIOUS   /   NEXT >

The No. 46 Dahlia pattern is marbled with veins of dove grey, sand and black, with large spots of pale green and smaller ones of dispersants, which allow the creamy coloured base paper to show though.

Dahlia was created in the late 19th century. Traditionally, it is marbled from a Turkish base (the oldest European marbling pattern, dating back to the 15th century), which is made by tapping colours from a brush onto the marbling bath, creating a random, spotted pattern. The base is then combed twice horizontally, into a Zebra pattern, and then sprinkled with a colour. To make the Dahlia pattern, an additional colour is applied to the surface, a second is swirled through a sieve onto the bath, and lastly a third is tapped onto bath.
